WMM 21 Days 5/2/21
Deborah means ‘bee.’ Deborah was definitely a ‘Busy bee.’ This is demonstrated in her constant activity, industrious diligence and care, the God of grace enabled Deborah to live her life as a devoted, quiet and faithful nurse.
Deborah was a handmaiden to Rebekah, she nursed Jacob, Esau and most likely their children in turn. Testimony to Deborah’s devotion is revealed when she was no longer fit to serve she was revered as a family member. Also her burial in place of honour at Allon Bakuth, which was known as the “Oak of Weeping” Deborah’s devoted service to this family led to her being honoured friend.
I think if you were to visit the household of Rebekah you would not have be able to tell that Deborah was actually a servant.
Jesus said; “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
While we are called to serve the Lord, Jesus has brought us into the privileged position of being His friends so we don’t serve as slaves without a choice we are able to serve as friends.
1. Do you ever battle with serving without recognition?
2. Consider what it means to be called a friend of Jesus.
